From the fiber to the garment – Loro Piana makes value creation transparent

Italian fashion house Loro Piana is making its sustainability processes more transparent to customers, allowing selected products to be traced from fiber to store.

With the new technology, the processes of tracing and transparency are changing, so that end consumers can now also gain insights into the production processes and all facets of the brand’s clothing production.

The Quarona-based company is known for its high-quality textiles such as cashmere, wool, silk and vicuña, for which rare raw materials are used and which are therefore among the highest quality luxury fabrics.

Digital Certification

Loro Piana’s garments made from ‘The Gift of Kings’ merino wool, one of the oldest types of wool in the world, are now digitally certified by the ‘Aura Blockchain Consortium’. The non-profit organization was founded in 2021 by LVMH, the Prada Group and Cartier. The OTB Group and Mercedes-Benz followed in 2021 and 2022. The consortium aims to develop the applications of blockchain technology and raise the standards of luxury, creating “transparency and trust for all customers and stakeholders,” it says on the organization’s website.

The launch of the new technology coincided with the opening of the brand’s new store in California. There, customers can scan a QR code on each piece of clothing and thus trace the origin of all raw materials, including all farms behind them.

Thanks to the complete transparency of the supply chain, Loro Piana reveals every work step and thus follows the entire path of the fibers that are ultimately processed into the garments. Blockchain technology also provides proof of ownership.
