Same procedure as every year: During the autumn holidays of 2025, around 70 interested people from Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Bremen and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania took the opportunity to get to know the campus. From Flensburg and Husum via Hamburg, Lübeck and Braunschweig to Waren an der Müritz – they all made the journey to get a real impression of the TH Lübeck.

The participants were between 15 and 65 years old and brought with them very different experiences and perspectives. Some are currently in training or have already studied and want to continue training their brains with a degree at the end of their professional career.

Diverse insights into your studies

In the lectures, participants were able to experience university life first hand. 15-year-old student Mia Wimmers says: I like the principle of listening first and being able to understand everything without having to carry out tasks directly. This is very different from school. The student at the Johanneum in Lübeck was particularly impressed by the lecture on environmental sciences, in which she was able to experience the students’ in-depth technical discussions.

In addition to lectures, the participants also took part in internships and got to know the campus. This in turn gave rise to questions such as: What does the word internship mean in the context of studying? The former FH Lübeck student and participant in the trial course Thomas Dieckow explains: Internships are the practical parts of the course that usually take place in the laboratory.
The 65-year-old graduate engineer and city guide from Lübeck was particularly impressed by the lecture on quality management: I liked the combination of theory and practice. Quality management was clearly linked to examples from everyday life, such as purchasing kitchens.

Exchange with students and alumni

Conversations with the students Mathis Monke and Lily Heck (both Applied Chemistry), Finn Guhlke (Industrial engineering food industry), Carla Ebel (Electrical engineering), Raphael Stock (Urban planning) and Sophie Wimmer (Environmental engineering and management).
Alumni reported on how they gained a foothold in the working world after studying at the TH Lübeck. These included Anna Wolbert (UKSH Lübeck), Simon Ulbrich (Senior Technologist at Schwartauer Werken), Franziska Görner (Software Engineer at Euroimmun), Finja Wegener (Research Associate at CoSA of the TH Lübeck) and also Christian Rags, who now works at Dräger as a marketing manager and studied biomedical engineering and industrial engineering at the TH Lübeck with a bachelor’s degree.

Everyday study life and important questions

In addition to the technical insights, the participants also asked questions about everyday study life: How does an online exam work? How do I finance my studies? Stefanie Prüss from Student Union Schleswig-Holstein provided information about BAföG and dispelled myths. Many would underestimate their chances of receiving financial support – around 70 percent do not use their entitlement.

What’s next?

The student Mia Wimmers discovered for herself: I’m a university person and like to touch things with my brain. I want to go into particle physics. The trial course gave her important insights into everyday student life. Thomas Dieckow also knows where to go. He wants Business Administration study. I am enthusiastic about TH Lübeck and the people here!
