Five volunteer organizations have a chance to win The compliment from Drenthean award for the efforts of volunteer organizations. This year, attention will be paid to initiatives in which young people play a central role.

From more than fifty applications, an independent jury selected initiatives from the municipalities of Emmen, Westerveld, Assen, Coevorden and Midden-Drenthe. “It is always a difficult choice,” says jury chairman Erik Giethoorn. “We are looking for inspiring examples. Each jury member chooses the most appealing examples from the applications. Then you come together to a top five.”

The volunteers of Sportplein Emmerhout from Emmen organize exercise activities for children on a square in the neighborhood. Young people also help. Julyan (15) supervises the activities every Monday.

New Year’s Eve association De Oliebol from Westerveld is committed to Vledder all year round. The group organizes activities, visits the sick and raises money for local associations.

25 young volunteers from Play4Peace from Assen supervise dance and game activities twice a week in the asylum center in the TT Hall. The volunteers are also refugees themselves.

The Sweelpop music festival has been around for more than 40 years and is organized entirely by young people. Sweelpop is a household name in the Coevorden region and brings generations together.

Eight young volunteers from the AMDG youth committee from Central Drenthe organize activities for the youth of the music association throughout the year. They are full of initiative and an example for other members.

You can vote on the website of the Province of Drenthe until November 2. The votes help the jury with their final choice. Who will be announced on December 6 The compliment from Drenthe gets. Deputy Yvonne Turenhout will then present the prize. The winner receives 3,000 euros.
