From roti to chicken curry sandwiches: a Surinamese takeaway restaurant has opened in Oosterheem

Residents from Oosterheem no longer have to go to the center of the city or to Rokkeveen to get roti and bara. A new Surinamese takeaway restaurant has opened in Oosterheem.

Owners Ryan Kathusing and Vinod Rasoelbaks know how to eat Surinamese: “It should taste just like home.”

Prepared with love

Surinamese takeaway restaurant Bradazz will be open on Tuesday 22 August. Friends, acquaintances, neighbours, relatives and the Zoetermeer neighborhood came by for a chicken curry sandwich or a roti roll. “Everyone prepares the food in a different way. The way it tastes at home, it tastes different here. But the food here is good,” says a customer.

Owner Vinod says: “We work with quality products and cook with love. You can taste that in our dishes. We don’t have a specialty: you just have to come and taste everything!”

What’s the pot

Instead, Vinod and Ryan opt for a takeout restaurant so guests can drop by and see what the food looks like. There is plenty on the menu for lunch and dinner. Think of hot meals such as roti chicken or vegetarian, nasi and bami and other rice dishes. There are also sandwiches filled with cod, shrimps or hot chicken and as snacks there are bara, saoto soup and casava chips.

“Every few weeks we offer specials that we announce on Instagram,” explains Vinod. “These are meals that take longer to prepare. Think pom, duck in curry and filled sopropo.”
