From one Ronaldo club to another: Pezzolano new coach of Real Valladolid

First stop in Europe

After Pacheta’s exit, Real Valladolid have found a new coach. Uruguay’s Paulo Pezzolano signed at table-16. LaLiga signed a contract until June 30, 2024. The 39-year-old last worked in Brazil for EC Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte, which he led back to the Série A as champions. Former world-class striker Ronaldo is the majority owner of both clubs. For Pezzolano, whom sporting director Fran Sánchez described as “brave, methodical and with a penchant for positional attacks and good ball handling”, it is the first stop in Europe.

The Uruguayan left Cruzeiro just under two weeks ago. “To be honest, I wasn’t 100 percent into it. This club, a giant like Cruzeiro, needs a coach who gives 1,000 percent,” Pezzolano justified the separation, which is said to have been fixed in December last year. However, the agreement with the club management only provided for a departure at the end of the regional state championship. He promised the fans that he would no longer work in Brazil this year.
