They made hundreds of former-looking jugs with papier-mâché. Thousands of patches of fabric in a gauze framework put. Puur Monnikenwerk at Bouwgroep De Lambrekvrienden in Heeze for the Brabantsedag next Sunday. We work with endless patience. “We sometimes tend to raffle it, but we don’t do that,” says a boy who painting gears is very decided. “They have to go even one time, otherwise it is not beautiful.”
Within the Carnival theme, the Lambrekvrienden has chosen Tilburg Kruikenstad. They have built a huge sheep. The huge head of the animal is still loose in the construction tent. It can only be done when the car has driven out, because the tent is not high enough.
A woman is making some more jugs with newspaper and starch. It seems as if there is no end to this work. “I sometimes wonder, who the hell has come up with,” she says with a smile.
“That’s me,” says designer Mieke van der Linden with a smile. “It’s all my fault.” She started thinking with a design team in November. “These are cozy brainstorming evenings that also end up in the trash.”
They have extensively studied the history of Kruikenstad and the Kruikenzeikers. “You still learn something,” says Mieke. “And then the drawing starts. We prepare everything in detail. We make prototypes of many parts, but in the end you also have to adjust a lot in practice.”
The structure is a long way, but it also needs to be necessary. A set of girls is still busy selecting pieces of textile. Not for the head, but for the ass the sheep. “The ass must also be beautiful,” says one of them laughing.
For Mieke it is the hour of truth this weekend. “You can have something in your head, you can draw something, but what does such a meter -high car finally look like it? Really very exciting,” she says.
