From granary to farm: 5 x Zoetermeer hotspots in historic buildings

From granary to dance location

In 1892, grain merchant Pieter Machiel Lammens had a house built at Dorpsstraat 76 and a granary at Dorpsstraat 74. He and several skippers, among others, lived in the house. The skippers shipped the grain from the warehouse via boats via the Buurvaart.

At the same time as the growth of our city in the 1970s, the function of the granary disappeared. The municipality of Zoetermeer became the owner and decided to convert it into a mini theater with a stage and film screen. After the arrival of the City Theater in 1992, the mini theater disappeared and there was an art library for some time.

Various catering establishments

In 2011, the granary turned into a catering facility where various entrepreneurs have opened a restaurant. In 2011, the current 1892 Food and Drink took over the building. The small theater hall is still there, where small-scale theater performances, events and meetings are regularly held.

Another granary

A little further on at Dorpsstraat 202 there was also a granary. Today we know the building as the vegan restaurant Ministry of Happiness.
