She never let go of that hard work. The Olympic flame that used to burn has no longer gone out. She now works in sports marketing, is a personal trainer and also spends every second of her free time training and improving. “I must have done everything I could to reach the Games. Otherwise I would never forgive myself.”

Rehabilitate for the summer

In February she suffered a major setback. Just before a race, the coach of another team accidentally bumps into her. Because she had her spikes on, her foot stayed put while her body turned.

Her ankle then took such a blow that the dream seemed to fade again. “I spent the whole summer recuperating and then I thought for a moment that ‘it won’t work out anymore’. I have doubts every day. There are definitely some tears involved. After torn cruciate ligaments, torn ankle ligaments, overtraining and Thrombosis reduces confidence in your body. But I don’t like giving up. I can’t throw in the towel.”
