Bayer Leverkusen maintains its lead at the top of the Bundesliga with its 18th win of the season. On Saturday, the Werkself managed a 2-1 win against strong home team 1. FC Heidenheim. Meanwhile, BVB has to let VfB Stuttgart pull away in the table. Dortmund couldn’t get beyond a draw in Wolfsburg, while the Swabians won in Darmstadt thanks to the returnee Serhou Guirassy and ex-Borussian Mahmoud Dahoud.

With 58 points after 22 match days, Leverkusen are third in Bundesliga history with the best points total at this point in time. Looking at all competitive games, the Rhinelanders are undefeated for the 32nd time in a row. The goals for Bayer 04 were scored by Jeremie Frimpong (45th + 2) and Amine Adli (81st). Tim Kleindienst scored the next goal for FCH (86th) with his seventh goal of the season. Leverkusen winger Frimpong now has that many.

Borussia Dortmund lost two points to crisis club VfL Wolfsburg in the race for the Champions League places. After goals from Niclas Füllkrug (8th minute) and Yannick Gerhardt (64th minute), both clubs’ series remained 1-1 this year: BVB has remained unbeaten since the winter break and VfL is still winless. But while Dortmund were somewhat slowed down before their Champions League round of 16 at PSV Eindhoven (Tuesday, 9 p.m./PrimeVideo), the deserved result and a convincing performance at Wolfsburg were probably enough to keep their much-criticized coach Niko Kovac moving on to keep in office.

VfB Stuttgart is heading towards the Champions League and SV Darmstadt 98 is heading towards relegation. The Swabians won 2-1 (1-0) against the Hessians on Saturday despite being outnumbered for the entire half. Goal scorer Guirassy (14th minute) and substitute Dahoud (90th + 2) scored for Stuttgart, who celebrated their fourth win in a row in the Bundesliga and consolidated third place in the table. Bottom team Darmstadt was unable to use the yellow-red card against VfB defender Pascal Stenzel (45th + 22) and has now been without a win in 15 league games. Joker Aaron Seydel’s goal (90+5) came too late.

Mainz shows signs of life in the relegation battle – Union wins at TSG

FSV Mainz 05 gained new hope in the fight against relegation from the Bundesliga at the premiere of new coach Bo Henriksen. The penultimate team won 1-0 (1-0) against FC Augsburg on Saturday, ending their negative streak of eleven games without a win. Defender Sepp van den Berg scored the decisive goal in the 44th minute, which meant that Rheinhessen moved within one point of 1. FC Köln in the relegation zone. The last three-pointer came on November 4th last year in a 2-0 win against RB Leipzig. In stoppage time, Augsburg’s Mads Pedersen was shown a red card for serious foul play.

Thanks to joker Brenden Aaronson, 1. FC Union Berlin got three points against relegation in a heated, disjointed game that was interrupted several times. Coach Nenad Bjelica’s team won 1-0 (0-0) at TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday thanks to the American Joker’s late goal. The game in front of 19,050 spectators in the Sinsheim stadium was marked by protests from Union fans and yellow-red cards for Hoffenheim’s Stanley Nsoki and Berlin’s Kevin Volland.
