The FNV trade union announces a strike from the NS staff before Friday 6 June. The strike is in force in the central Netherlands. Because almost all trains go through it, the whole country experiences consequences of the strike. Also travelers to and from Zoetermeer.

Of the strike the trade union wants to realize better working conditions and a higher salary for NS employees. If the railway company does not respond quickly, new work interruptions are planned.

Rural impact

The strike of the NS staff is final. As a result, no NS trains will run throughout the Netherlands on Friday 6 June. Trains do run between Amsterdam Central and Schiphol. International trains also continue to run, except Eurocity Direct.

NS says in a press release: “A strike in the central Netherlands is affecting the heart of our operation. A large part of the NS trains runs through the province of Utrecht. The national NS train traffic is also controlled from Utrecht. This has a strike in the central Netherlands national impact.”

If you have to travel by train to or from Zoetermeer on Friday, so take into account the strike and ensure alternative transport.

Future strikes

If FNV and NS do not come to a collective agreement after the work break on 6 June, the following strikes have been announced:

  • Tuesday 10 June – Region West
  • Thursday 12 June-Region of North West and East
  • Monday, June 16 – Region North and South

FNV: “If NS still does not take steps, national strikes follow.”
