On Friday no NS trains run throughout the country because the staff of the Central region is ceasing. The trains stand still from Friday 4 am to Saturday 4 am.
The Central Region covers the area around Utrecht, an important pivot in the rail network. As a result, all NS trains cannot run, so not in Drenthe. Moreover, the planning of the train schedule in Utrecht and the employees who do that also stop. Regional trains do run.
NS staff deposits the work due to dissatisfaction with the current collective agreement. Trade union FNV wants, among other things, that the wages of the NS employees go up by 4 percent on 1 March 2025 and 1 March 2026, plus 120 euros. According to FNV, the NS offers an annual wage increase of 2.55 percent. The union finds that too little because inflation is higher.
After Friday will also be stopped next Tuesday, then only in the West region. That action is followed by strikes in the regions of North West and East (12 June) and North and South (16 June). If the Dutch Railways do not agree to the requirements, a national strike day will probably follow on Tuesday 17 June.
