Alexander Zverev wants to reach for the title at the French Open. At the start he has to compete against a Frenchman.
Germany’s tennis star Alexander Zverev is making another attempt at his first Grand Slam title at the French Open. With defending champion Carlos Alcaraz withdrawing due to injury, the chance is greater than ever. At the start, the 29-year-old first has to compete against local hero Benjamin Bonzi. Alexander Zverev – Benjamin Bonzi 6:3, 5:4
Zverev – Bonzi 6:3, 5:4: Zverev gets the 0:15 as a gift and takes the 0:30 with a cracking forehand. Bonzi advances to the net and Zverev gets stuck in the net with his attempted pass. A forehand error by the German makes it 30:30, but Bonzi also misses a forehand and Zverev has break ball. Bonzi’s attempt to stop fails and Zverev immediately gets the break again. 5:4.
Zverev – Bonzi 6:3, 4:4: Zverev advances well to the net, but then misses the simple volley. At the next point he also bolts an overhead shot and suddenly it’s 0:30. A serve winner makes it 15:30, then Bonzi forces the German to make a mistake with a backhand longline. It’s 15:40 and the Frenchman has two break points. Zverev makes a double fault and the score is 4:4.
Zverev – Bonzi 6:3, 4:3: Bonzi doesn’t do much on his own serve, quickly makes it 40-0, but then makes a backhand error. But with a spectacular backhand longline he makes it 4:3.
Zverev – Bonzi 6:3, 4:2: With a slice that goes too long, Bonzi gives Zverev the 15-0 lead, then the German puts pressure on the score and makes it 30-0 with a backhand winner. Zverev overdoes it when attacking the net and pushes the ball out of bounds, but immediately makes it 40:15 with a volley at the next point. Zverev wins the game with a serve winner.
Zverev – Bonzi 6:3, 3:2: Bonzi quickly makes it 15-0, but is then caught cold at the net by Zverev. On the return, the German goes all out and forces Bonzi to make a mistake. The Frenchman can’t get a backhand longline back and Zverev gets two break points. A mistake means 30:40, but a backhand mistake from Bonzi brings the break. 3:2 for Zverev!
Zverev – Bonzi 6:3, 2:2: Zverev recovers and quickly makes it 40-0 on his own serve. With an ace he makes the game 2-2.
