Sabalenka quickly led 3-0 and 4: 1, gave her opponent with a sheer impaired no chance, but then made some mistakes – and Swiadek got into play better. Under the cheering of the audience, which mostly supported the Polish, Swiatek was 5: 4 in the first set with six breaks after an intermediate sprint. Sabalenka then hit almost everything in the Tiebreak.

The end was a painful one for Swiatek

In the second set of two outstanding Return players, both wiggled tremendously. Only Swiadek got her serve to 3-1 and then the lead into the stage destination. As close as the game went until then, the end was so short and painful for Swiatek: Sabalenka turned up in the stomach with plenty of anger and was now clearly superior – 24: 6 points in the decision set said everything.

“It feels incredible right now, but the job is not yet done” Sabalenka later said: “In the third set it was perfect tennis from me.”

Most recently, the French Open had won three times in series Swiatek

In doing so, she ended the IGA Swiatek series. Swiatek had triumphed in 2020 and most recently three times in series on Bois de Boulogne. The 24-year-old could have been the first player to get her fourth title in series in the “Open Era”.

For the first time after 26 individual victories, Swiatek lost a match again at the sand grand slam. This remains the record of Chris Evert (29). For Swiatek it was the third defeat in the 43rd career game at the French Open.

Finale at the French Open – a premiere for Sabalenka

In her first French Open final, Sabalenka will meet the world ranking second Coco Gauff (USA) or the French woman Loïs Boisson, which was sensational into the semi-finals as a wildcard player.

For Sabalenka it would be the fourth major triumph after two Australian and one US Open victory.

In the 13th duel of the two most successful players in the recent past, it was the fifth victory for the Sabalenka, three years older. Both have never faced each other in a Grand Slam final. Swiatek won the only match at a major tournament in the US Open semi-final in 2022 in three sets.
