Freight train carrying grain derailed in Crimea after explosion, presumably due to ‘interference from outsiders’ | Abroad

In a statement to Telegram, Sergey Aksyonov, the Russian governor of the annexed Crimea peninsula, said the grain wagons had derailed and no one was injured. Train traffic between the two cities has been suspended. A Telegram channel associated with Russian security services reported an explosion on a railway line in the region.

In a statement, Crimean Railways says the derailment was caused by “interference from outsiders”. Similar scenes were already reported at the beginning of the month. Two freight trains derailed in western Russia, with talk of an explosion each time.

Yesterday, Russia renewed the Black Sea Grains Agreement, a Turkey-brokered deal that allows the export of agricultural products from Russia and Ukraine across the Black Sea. The agreement was extended by two months.
