Freddie Mercury’s alleged secret daughter has died of a rare chordoma. What is known about “B” and her relationship with the Queen singer.
“B” is dead. She died at the age of 48 as a result of cancer, according to the family’s information to the media. Who was “B”? She is said to have been Freddie Mercury’s long-kept secret daughter.
As the book “Love, Freddie: Freddie Mercury’s Secret Life & Love” by British music journalist Lesley-Ann Jones claims, Mercury is said to have had a brief affair with the wife of a close friend in 1976. From this encounter, a child reportedly emerged who lived in Europe and worked as a health worker. She is also said to have been a mother, which means that Mercury is now a posthumous grandfather. The woman, referred to only as “B” in the biography, decided to tell her story after decades of silence – and in doing so brought a completely new dimension to the singer’s already dazzling life.
Accordingly, only Mercury’s closest confidants – including his parents, his sister, bandmates from Queen and his long-time friend Mary Austin – knew about the daughter’s existence. However, this knowledge was never made public.
What is known about the cause of death
According to her husband Thomas, “B” is now said to have died of a rare chordoma. She leaves behind two sons aged nine and seven. Her ashes have already been scattered over the Alps, according to further insider information. Her husband added that she “died peacefully after a long struggle” and is “now with her beloved and loving father in the world of thought.”
Only recently classified statement from “B”
Five months before her death, “B” released a statement in which she wrote about the challenges of dealing with the public perception of her alleged father. Specifically, she said: “I didn’t want to share my dad with the whole world.” And continued: “After his death, I had to learn to live with the attacks and misinterpretations about him. I mourned my dad while the whole world mourned Freddie. When you’re 15, that’s not easy.”
However, Mercury is said to have been committed and caring as a father, with daily contact even during tours. An independent regulation outside of his will also ensured the well-being of his daughter – and kept the secret.
“We had a very close and loving relationship”
In a handwritten letter printed in the book, “B” says: “Freddie Mercury was and is my father. We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born. The circumstances of my birth may seem unusual to many, but they never stopped him from loving and caring for me.”
The biography describes how “B” was raised by a loving family, but always knew who her biological father was. Before Mercury died of AIDS-related pneumonia in 1991, he gave his daughter 17 voluminous volumes of his personal diaries. “B” had kept this secret for years, but finally handed it over to the journalist Jones. The diaries formed the basis for the book, which was published on September 5, 2025.
Author Jones, a childhood friend of David Bowie who has already published the bestseller “Freddie Mercury. The Biography”, was convinced of the authenticity of the story: “My first impulse was skepticism – but I’m sure: she’s not a fantasist. And she doesn’t want money or fame.”
Freddie Mercury’s relationships
Freddie Mercury had several relationships throughout his life – with both men and women. He was in a relationship with Jim Hutton from 1985 until his death. Particularly well-known is his close connection to Mary Austin, whom he met when she was 19 and he was 24 – before his international breakthrough with Queen. The couple lived together and were even engaged until Freddie finally came out as gay. They never had children, but Mary remained one of Freddie’s most important caregivers until Freddie’s death. She later started a family with another partner and had two sons – her close friendship with Mercury lasted a lifetime. In the early 1980s, Mercury also had a relationship with the Austrian actress Barbara Valentin. But his third liaison with a woman – the one who supposedly gave birth to his daughter – remained a well-kept secret until 2025.
