Leaving in winter?

The future of Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Oscar Fraulo is likely to be decided in the coming weeks. If the 21-year-old Dane builds on his recent achievements, he will be given an extension to his contract on the Lower Rhine, which expires in 2026 – if not, the right-footer with Italian roots is likely to be given up in the winter, reports the “Bild” newspaper.
Fraulo moved to the Fohlen from FC Midtjylland in 2022 for a fee of 2 million euros as a promising talent, but had not been able to assert himself in the Bundesliga in recent years despite his undisputed high potential.
However, the Danish U21 national player proved that he can do it at a high level with his performances last season: During his second loan to FC Utrecht, Fraulo scored six goals in 27 league games, thereby helping to qualify for international business. He was able to increase his market value in the Eredivisie to a career high of 3.5 million euros. The midfielder also impressed during his three short appearances this season and was rewarded with his first goal of the season in the away win at St. Pauli last weekend.
So is there still enough for a longer future and more playing time in Mönchengladbach? According to the paper, initial discussions are underway between the professional and the new sports director Rouven Schröder.
“Oscar is a really great boy. He’s someone who really goes through every training session. He wasn’t in the squad in the DFB Cup against Karlsruhe. But he felt like he spent the whole day in the catacombs and supported the team,” Schröder is quoted as saying in “Bild”. The paper suggests that Fraulo is now being tested until winter with a view to an extension. Schröder explained: “Everyone can apply for more through performance. Then we will make the decision calmly.”
