Protection instead of season: For Franziska Preuß, the Biathlon World Cup at the Pokljuka has ended prematurely.
As the German Ski Association (DSV) announced, the leader in the overall World Cup on Sunday will not start neither in the single mixed (12.05 p.m.) nor in the mixed relay (2:40 p.m./Allen ZDF and Eurosport).
“That was one thing that we had discussed. Here the full concentration is now on the fight for the overall World Cup,” said sports director Felix Bitterling: “The season is long, consumed, so it certainly makes sense to give her a bit of regeneration time here.”
In the duel around the yellow jersey, the 31-year-old is only 20 points in front of her French competitor Lou JeanMonnot after her fifth place on Saturday.
On Friday, a sprint (4:15 p.m.), a persecution (3:50 p.m.) and another mass start (1:15 p.m./Alles ARD and Eurosport) are on the legendary wooden scale.
In the single mixed relay, the DSV goes into the race with Selina Grotian and Justus Strelow instead, the duo had reached the podium in this racing format in January at the home game in Oberhof. In mixed, Julia Tannheimer, Sophia Schneider, Danilo Riethmüller and Philipp Nawrath form the German quartet.
