The child of ex-MP Rosa Meriläinen and comedian Simo Frangén is accused of slandering the police, news reports Ilta-Sanomat and Stop.

According to IS and Seiska, the indictment has started in Helsinki District Court on December 8, 2025. The defendants are nine other people in addition to Frangén. According to Seiska, the crime took place in Helsinki on June 9, 2025. At the same time, the environmental movement Elokapina organized a demonstration in the center of Helsinki.

Frangén tells IS that he took part in a protest procession where the police arrested him. He tells the newspaper that he received an order from the police to leave the demonstration, which he initially obeyed by leaving the roadway to the side of the sidewalk.

– I received a verbal personal order to leave and left the roadway when the police gave the order to leave, but then I went back to a slightly different place and when I was given another order to leave, they noticed that this is the same guy and said: “Catch him,” Frangén tells IS.

Frangén tells the newspaper that he does not want to act against the law. He does not regret his actions.

– I’m proud that I fight for all life, but of course in this particular case… it doesn’t really hurt, but somehow I’m really surprised that the police suddenly acted like this, he says to the magazine.

Born in 2006, Frangén was a candidate in the municipal elections in Helsinki last year on the party lists of the Greens. He told Yle in the election machine that he has extensive experience in activism, especially through Elokapina.

Frangén’s mother Rosa Meriläinen also participated in the same demonstration procession. Meriläinen tells IS that she is proud of her child.
