Frankfurt’s Knauff: “No thoughts yet” about the future

Halle / Westphalia (dpa) – Eintracht Frankfurt’s youngster Ansgar Knauff will not be influenced in his future planning by the change of coach at his home club Borussia Dortmund.

“He called me after the Europa League victory and congratulated me, I was very happy. We are in good contact,” said Knauff about Edin Terzic, who replaced Marco Rose as BVB coach. “As agreed, I’m on loan for a year and a half and will be playing in Frankfurt next season, nothing has changed about that,” said Knauff in Halle/Westphalia, where he is preparing for the two upcoming games in the European Championship qualifier with the German U21 footballers.

The 20-year-old offensive player was loaned out by BVB to Frankfurt during the winter break until the summer of 2023. There he developed into a regular player and was voted the best young player in the Europa League. The special thing about Frankfurt is “how people cheer, support us in the best possible way,” said Knauff. “I’m really looking forward to next year and the Champions League with Frankfurt and these fans.” He does not yet know what will happen after the loan expires: “After that I have a year’s contract in Dortmund. I don’t think about anything else yet.”

With the U21s, Knauff wants to buy a ticket for the finals of the European Championship in the upcoming game against Hungary on Friday (6.15 p.m. / Sat.1) in Osnabrück. The team coached by Antonio Di Salvo is still missing a point from the games against Hungary and four days later in Poland. “Now it’s important that we tackle the last two games as clearly and bring home the group win,” said Knauff. “Then I’m sure that with this team and with the talent we have a good chance at the European Championship.”
