‘Frank Dane fired from Radio 538 because of dinner with Qmusic’

Frank Dane has been fired as the morning jock from Radio 538, because he had dinner with the program director of major competitor Qmusic. That is what Patrick Kicken writes.

Patrick Kicken, the most famous radio columnist in the Netherlands, thinks he knows why Frank Dane was taken off the morning rush of Radio 538 by station owner John de Mol. According to the radio expert, Frank was caught talking to Dave Minneboo, the program director of the major competitor Qmusic.

Bomb burst after dinner

The ‘extremely nice dinner’ between Frank and Dave took place in mid-December, Patrick knows. “On Christmas Eve, the bomb exploded between the Coco/Talpa company and Dane Inc. Do you do the math or I do the math?”, he writes in his column speaking tube

Frank and Dave were spotted in a restaurant, explains Patrick. “Minneboo is of course the biggest thorn in De Mol’s side at the moment, because he left under him and when they asked him back, he kindly thanked him a while back. You won’t do something like that a second time, so you are now persona non grata and anyone who conspires with the enemy will swear to it!”

Negotiations

Frank’s contract expires at the end of the year and apparently he wanted to play Qmusic and Radio 538 against each other, according to Patrick. “It’s the old principle when you know that your contract extension is coming up: you cast some fishing rods at other channels to see if there is also any interest there.”

With an offer in hand, you can then enter into negotiations, Patrick outlines. “Always just a little bit tastier and you can bring it up nicely. ‘Yes, station X also wants me, so I want 50 vacation days a year instead of 25, and speaking of 25: I think a 25% salary increase is still on the low side, but okay, I’ll do it for that’.”

With all his experience in negotiations, you can’t do that with John, Patrick knows. “He is very business-like. Believes that women who have just been assaulted should report to the appropriate counter. So he will not be tempted into these kinds of games, in fact: ten others for you.”

Incidentally, Patrick would consider it a smart move by Qmusic to bring Frank into his home. He could then take the place of the ‘boring’ Domien Verschuuren, he says. “It could be the final blow to 538. Coen and Sander have been on their way back for so long that they don’t even have to buy a ticket anymore.”
