Chief Merchandising Officer Martijn van der Zee leaves

Martijn van der Zee, who works as Chief Merchandise & Sustainability Officer for C&A in Europe, is leaving the fashion retailer.

He is leaving on February 7 “to pursue new tasks,” C&A said on Monday. Van der Zee has worked for the fashion retailer since 1992 and has been a member of the management board of C&A Europe since 2016. In the management he was first active as Chief Merchandise & Sourcing Officer. In July 2021 he also assumed responsibility for sustainability. Before that he held various positions at C&A, including Head of Regional Marketing at C&A Netherlands and Director of Buying at C&A Europe.

“I am grateful that Martijn supported the onboarding of the new leadership team with his many years of C&A experience,” said Giny Boer, Managing Director C&A Europe.

A successor will be announced in due course, according to C&A.

C&A centralizes organizational structure in Europe

C&A is currently in the process of centralizing its organizational structure in Europe. To this end, the following departments should work more closely together: Merchandise & Sustainability, Operations, Digital & Consumer, Selling & Markets, Finance & IT, People & Culture and Corporate Communications & Fashion PR. This involves the organization of the company divisions between the European main offices and national business centers, especially in the four markets of Germany, Central Eastern Europe, Benelux and Southern Europe.

C&A already filled some of its key positions last year. Betty Kieß was appointed Head of Corporate Communications Europe in April. Jean Sebastien Guy followed in March, taking on the role of Chief People & Culture Officer. Meanwhile, Domingos Esteves, Managing Director for Spain and Portugal, left the group after 28 years. The American William Laufs, director of business planning for Europe, took over for him.
