At his own request, Farioli decided to have his contract dissolved with the Amsterdammers, which went through for another two years. The Italian announced the day after the last league match against FC Twente to leave Ajax. After the last whistle, Fararoli thanked the F-Side and became emotional.
He had led the Amsterdammers to second place in the Eredivisie and with that Champions League football. John Heitinga has since succeeded him as Ajax trainer.
