In view of the sharp rise in the cost of electricity and gas, France intends to cap tariffs next year as well. Prices would increase by a maximum of four percent by the end of 2022, Economics Minister Bruno Le Maire assured in Metz on Saturday. No adjustments would be made next year. This should further reduce the burden on consumers. He did not specify what the new measures should look like in concrete terms.

In France, wholesale electricity prices have hit a record at more than 1000 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), up from around 85 euros per MWh a year ago. Gas prices are also at a record high of more than 300 euros per megawatt hour as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. (dpa)
