In the top game of the group against Portugal, the “Équipe tricolore” struggles for a long time. A scene with Mathys Tel worries – but not long.

Competitive but goalless start in group C for two top teams at this U21 European Championship: France and Portugal separated 0-0 on Wednesday evening.

The duel was one with plenty of Bundesliga participation. Castello Lukeba (RB Leipzig), Chrislain Matsima (FC Augsburg) and Kiliann Sildillia (SC Freiburg) ran in the French chain of four from the start, also Bavaria Munich Mathys Tel, borrowed to Tottenham Hotspur. Tiago Tomás from VfL Wolfsburg stormed for the Portuguese.

In the first half, however, the Portuguese achieved top chances in particular, but once and again lacked the last punch in the attack, but France was still lucky not to fall behind. So Tomás had the lead for Portugal on his foot, prevailed in the running duel with Bundesliga colleague Matsima, but then failed in one-on-one to France goalkeeper Guillaume Rest (16.). A short time later, the Portuguese could not take advantage of a defense person from their opponent, according to Tomás template, Roger only shot over the latte (20th).

There was a concern and a moment of terror shortly before the break, when Tel stayed on the ground after a duel with a face -rated face. After a long treatment break with ice spray, the attacker continued (42nd).

After the break there was a lot back and forth, but top -class goal chances were in short supply. Before in added time, France Johann Lepenant came to a conclusion again, but Portugal’s goalkeeper Samuel Soares failed (90.+2).

The German selection, however, denies its start in Group B on Thursday (9:00 p.m./SAT.1) in Nitra against Slovenia. Afterwards, the team of DFB coach Antonio di Salvo is still against the Czech Republic (June 15) and defending champion England (June 18).
