In the 33:30 defeat of Dinamo Bucharest in the European League, the Füchse Berlin surprised themselves the most. Just 30 hours after returning from the Super Globe in Saudi Arabia, Jaron Siewert’s (29) team put in a confident performance.

Not even the coach had expected that – after the stress of traveling, playing games and far too little sleep. U21 world champion Tim Freihöfer literally exploded on the parquet and conjured ten goals into the Romanian net.

The left winger then reveals the trainer’s trick for victory. Freihöfer: “We only did the game preparation and video session two hours before kick-off directly in the hall.”

And adds with a laugh: “That worked really well. If that brought us the win, I’ll just come to the game soon.”

Siewert confirms his winning tactics: “Yes, it’s true, I last saw the boys when they got off the plane and only met them again two hours before the game. In between, I left the team alone, didn’t see anyone, meet anyone, didn’t make any phone calls.”

And further: “Yes, it could have backfired. But it was more important to me that the players got at least a little bit of rest.”

On Saturday we go to Kiel, where we play on Sunday (2:05 p.m./Dyn).
