Foxes Berlin win at Bidasoa Irun

Füchse Berlin also won their second game under temporary coach Bob Hanning. On Tuesday evening, Berlin won the penultimate group game of the European League at Spanish representative Bidasoa Irun 35:32 (20:16).

Manager Hanning and branch manager Volker Zerbe represented the trainer duo Jaron Siewert and Max Rinderle, who tested positive for Corona. Best Berlin throwers were Lasse Andersson with nine and Hans Lindberg with five goals.

In addition to Marian Michalczik, Nils Lichtlein and Marko Kopljar, who have been injured for a long time, the foxes also had to do without youngster Max Beneke (Abitur examination) and pivot Johan Koch, who is expecting offspring. But the only 18-year-old Nicholas Schley made his professional debut. The foxes started highly concentrated and after nine minutes they took a 7:3 lead.

After that, the Basques came into play better, at least offensively. Two early time penalties against pivot Mijajlo Marsenic increased Berlin’s concerns in the center. The guests also had bad luck with a few wrong decisions by the very weak Slovenian referee duo. So the foxes couldn’t pull away before the break.

Things got hectic after the break, and in the 42nd minute Marsenic saw a red card after his third time penalty. Irun came close to scoring again, but the visitors stayed calm and took the narrow lead home.

In the last game of Group A next Tuesday, the foxes will fight for the group victory against the Poles from Wisla Plock. They are already qualified for the round of 16.
