Foxes Berlin separate from Kretzschmar and trainer Siewert

On Tuesday, Stefan Kretzschmar announced not to extend his contract with the Füchsen Berlin. Now the club creates facts.
The Berlin Foxes turn the club up. As T-Online has learned, the capital club separates with immediate effect from Board Sport Stefan Kretzschmar and coach Jaron Siewert. The club will officially make the separation on Wednesday. On Wednesday morning, a crisis meeting took place with Kretzschmar, in which the procedure was discussed together.
Nicolej Krickau takes over as the successor to coach Siewert. He will be on the line in the Bundesliga top game against Magdeburg on Saturday. Ex-professional Paul Drux will enter the footsteps of Kretzschmar as a link between the board and the team from July 2026.
The quake marks the climax of a dispute that has been smoldering for days at the capital club. It all started that Kretzschmar had publicly expressed his displeasure with the negotiations on a contract extension with him and Siewert. Both contracts expire at the end of the season. “It is a state where you are of course in the air. It is a tense situation for everyone involved,” said Kretzschmar to the German Press Agency.
Hanning, on the other hand, had repeatedly emphasized that he wanted to make a decision in peace in autumn. The 57-year-old clearly disregarded that personnel policy in Berlin, not least by Kretzschmar’s statements, was publicly discussed. “There would be no unrest if you didn’t want to cause unrest,” Hanning said last Sunday at Dyn. In the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, the former DHB Vice President described some statements from Kretzschmar as “borderline”.
Then Kretzschmar surprisingly announced his farewell to the Foxes on Tuesday. “Public discussions about the strategic orientation are not good for the club. To take the media pressure and focus on our ambitious goals this season, I announced my decision today. By June 2026, I will work and fight with passion to achieve these goals,” he wrote on Instagram.
The club had obviously not been informed before: “The Füchse Berlin was surprised by this decision and took note of it with great regret,” said a press statement. The shareholders would now decide in an entrepreneurial manner how the future of the association should be made in the best possible way against the background of this development. The considerations now led to the separation of Kretzschmar and Siewert.
The power -conscious Hanning and Kretzschmar never considered best friends. Nevertheless, they worked professionally with the Foxes and consistently put the success of the association in the foreground. However, there were different views.
For Hanning, it was not negotiable to consider top performance and the promotion of young talents as an inseparable unit. Kretzschmar, on the other hand, would have liked to invest even more in the quality and depth of the squad.
The dispute of the two Foxes makers nevertheless triggered astonishment. After all, the capital club looks back on the best season in its club history. The German championship title was first taken and the final of the Champions League was reached.
