The German curling women have come one step closer to their dream of the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Skip Sara Messenzehl’s team won 8-4 against Australia at the qualifying tournament in Kelowna, Canada. With their fourth success in their sixth game, the German team still has everything in their own hands.

However, there will now be a first showdown against the USA on Wednesday night (4:00). Before the seventh and final matchday of the group phase, both teams are tied for third place, and the loser of the duel would have lost their hope of participating in the Olympics. Two final starting places for the Winter Games in Italy are still being awarded in Canada; the best three teams in the preliminary round will have the chance. First the two best nations play for the first ticket, the loser then competes against the third best selection.

In the event of a victory over the Americans, that would be the German team. The German women can no longer move up to second place even if the Norwegians suffer a final defeat (2nd/5 wins) due to the loss of the direct comparison.
