Forum for Democracy School in Tilburg does not get off the ground

The chance that there will be a Forum for Democracy School in Tilburg seems smaller than ever. The authorities involved in this have announced that nothing is known about a new primary school to be established. Forum for Democracy has stopped sending newsletters to interested parties for months.

This summer it became clear that Forum for Democracy (FvD) wanted to found its own primary school in Tilburg. The school, known as the Renaissance school, appeared in the overview of initiatives of the Education Executive Agency (DUO). There was a special newsletter for interested parties and an information evening was organized in a childcare center in Loon op Zand.

‘Not through to the next round’
Four months later, little is known about the new school, which should initially start in September. Forum for Democracy called on parents to fill in a statement to show that there is interest in a renaissance school in the city.

But DUO has not received an application for a regular primary school. It is probably not possible to find enough parents. “In any case, they are not through to the next round,” said a spokesperson. A private school, paid for by the parents, is still an option. There is already such a renaissance school in Almere with a small number of students. To date, however, the Education Inspectorate has no information about a similar initiative in Tilburg.

No news
It seems that the initiative has died a quiet death. The newsletter for interested parents was last sent on 29 July, announcing a meeting in a café at the Piushaven. At the end of August there was a ‘children’s play afternoon’ in a Tilburg city forest, after that it was quiet.

Forum for Democracy did not respond to questions from Omroep Brabant.
