At the sprint qualifying in Canada, Kimi Antonelli narrowly missed out on pole position. His Mercedes teammate George Russell secures first place on the grid.

Mercedes driver George Russell secured pole position for the sprint race in Canada on Saturday (6 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). The Brit set the fastest time with 1:12.965 minutes; Antonelli crossed the finish line just 68 thousandths slower.

The McLaren drivers made up the second row of the grid among themselves. World champion Lando Norris beat Oscar Piastri there. The two were also only separated by a blink of an eye of 19 thousandths.

The third row also consists of a pairing of teammates. Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton beat Charles Leclerc. The multiple world champion Max Verstappen was faster than his teammate Isack Hadjar, but still had to settle for seventh place on the grid. From a German perspective, things were bitter for Nico Hülkenberg, who narrowly missed Q3 and will start the race from eleventh place on the grid.
