After the crash in Canada, Lando Norris ensured an exclamation mark in qualifying at the Grand Prix of Austria and secured the starting position one. The day for Max Verstappen was disappointing.

In 1: 03.971 minutes, Norris drove the best time ahead of Charles Leclerc (+ 0.521 seconds) in Ferrari on Saturday (June 28, 2025). The World Cup leading Oscar Piatri in the second McLaren on Sunday (from 3 p.m. in the live center of Sportschau.de) will come into the race. World champion Verstappen had to accept a bitter setback. At the Red Bull home game, the Dutchman had to be satisfied with seventh place-almost a second behind the day’s best Norris.

After a litter of the Frenchman Pierre Gasly in the alpine, Verstappen had to stop his last round after good intermediate times due to a yellow flag. “The car is completely wrong,” he complained, “it’s worse than before. I don’t know what to say.” It went even worse for Verstappen’s teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who only gets into the race from 18th place.

Hülkenberg to Bremser at the back

In fourth place, Lewis Hamilton completed the good result of the red in the second Ferrari, who are now running in a row. The Mercedes team had nothing to do with the front places. George Russell (+0.792 seconds) was fifth, talent Kimi Antonelli (+1.305 seconds) had to be satisfied with ninth place. “We will probably end up in the race tomorrow,” said team boss Toto Wolff at Sky. Wolff admitted that the “silver arrows” could not cope with the high temperatures on the route.

The only German driver in the field, Nico Hülkenberg, cost a mistake in curve four in the kick. The Rhinelander braked and landed in the disappointing last place after the first ko round.

As a top favorite, Norris goes into the renen because, in addition to the clear best time in qualifying, he also put the best time in all other training and qualifying sessions.
