Only sixth place in the World Cup ranking, 25 points behind stable companions Charles Leclerc, who is also only in fifth place: No, so Lewis Hamilton probably did not imagine his “dream marriage” with Ferrari and the media-effective switch to Scuderia far beyond the borders of Formula 1.
The red from Maranello are increasingly under pressure, according to Italian media, team boss Fred Vasseur. After all, a little idea of hope are the updates that Ferrari has for Spielberg in their luggage. But how great their effects will be, Hamilton is still reluctant in this regard.
“First of all, I am pleased that we get an update at all. It is always exciting to get new parts to the car, and I am really grateful for everyone who has worked so hard to provide these innovations,” praises the Brit, but knowing: “We know how big the actual effect will not be – the usual information is missing, which is not actually clear at the moment.”
Hamilton wants to continue looking “no excuses”
Of course, he hopes on the much -cited “step in the right direction”, says Hamilton, “but I don’t think we expect it to change a lot. Hope remains that it may be better than we think.”
Just like recently in Canada, where the 40 -year -old caught a clear upward trend, especially in qualifying – but in the race a lot went wrong again, as is so often the case this season: “Perhaps one day you will find out everything that has thrown us back – be it mistakes in the team, technical problems or driving errors.”
Despite the supposedly predicament at the moment, the record world champion points out: “And again: I am not looking for excuses. Before the last race, we were still in second place in the constructor evaluation – despite many problems, both on the driver’s side and on the technical side.”
Goal for 2026: “The best car we have ever had”
The remedy of this is high pressure: “It is positive that we are making progress – I feel that. Even if you may not always recognize it from the outside, it is important for me to see that it is going on. And that is exactly what I perceive: We are developing, and that counts.” Because Hamilton also makes no secret of this: With a view of the big picture, his view has long been directed towards 2026:
“Behind the scenes, I am very intensively working with Fred and the entire team to initiate changes and improvements that will continue to us in the long term. Together with Loïc and the whole team, I work on the front and rear wheel suspension for next year, especially on eliminating understood,” reveals Hamilton.
The current route is therefore clear: “We want to make sure that we learn from the past few years – and also from the knowledge of this season – so that the car will be the best next year. This is my biggest focus.”
