Rumors are growing about a possible Formula 1 comeback by former Red Bull team boss Christian Horner. However, a timely implementation is probably not to be expected.

“Bild” confirms the speculation circulating about Horner’s talks about joining Alpine. However, contrary to reports to the contrary, there has not yet been a breakthrough in the negotiations. This is not expected until the beginning of 2026 at the earliest, if the parties want to continue talking, it is said.

In this context, the tabloid also refers to the paddock and Formula 1 ban, which applies to Horner until the end of April 2026 after he left Red Bull last summer. This was anchored in a clause in his termination agreement.

One thing is clear: Horner not only wants to act as team boss at Alpine, but also wants to acquire shares in the Renault factory team. He is said to have recently sought and found investors for this purpose.

Like the Dutch “Telegraaf” recently, “Bild” writes that Alpine co-owner Otro Capital is ready to sell its shares in the racing team. 24 percent of Alpine belongs to the US investor group and its value is estimated at around 800 million euros.

Remarkable: In 2023, Otro Capital only paid 200 million euros for the shares.

Formula 1: Horner rumors persist

However, they hoped for better sporting development at Alpine. The team took tenth and last place in the constructors’ championship of the past Formula 1 season.

The Horner rumors surrounding Alpine persist. “TalkSPORT” insider Jon Jackson had already reported in mid-November, citing rumors from the Formula 1 paddock, that the 52-year-old initially wanted to join as a team boss and later as a shareholder.

It is the “most likely scenario,” said Jackson.
