McLaren dominates 2nd training
In the 2nd training session, McLaren presented himself in an impressive form and by far the fastest lap times of the day. Lando Norris in particular showed up in top shape and set a clear record, but it remains open how much performance the competition actually revealed. Max Verstappen seems to be the first pursuer again, even if he lacked around three tenths on Norris. Mercedes, on the other hand, had to make springs: George Russell was significantly ago with a gap of six tenths of a second. Williams could not confirm the strong performance from the 1st training session and fell back in the classification. Nico Hülkenberg also remained behind the expectations: his quick round did not really come together, and he found himself in the back of the field.

The 2nd training on the Red Bull Ring has ended and after the test starts it goes back to the pit lane. But a little surprisingly fourth was Lance Stroll in the Astron Martin. Charles Leclerc was fifth ahead of George Russell and Yuki Tsunoda. Gabriel Bortoleto, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton complete the top ten. Nico Hülkenberg was only 19.

Ferrari with problems
The session at Ferrari was anything but smooth. In addition to regular drivers Lewis Hamilton, the test pilot Dino Beganovic, who took over Leclerc’s car. But even for the young Sweden, things did not go according to plan and because of a technical problem, he was in the box for a long time and was only able to collect travel time to a limited extent. Lewis Hamilton also struggled with difficulties. In between, the veteran reported problems with the gearbox, which significantly impaired his session. In the end it was only ninth for him.

In midfield, Pierre Gasly sat down in fifth position. Gabriel Bortoleto was sixth in front of Albon and Carlos Sainz in Williams. Nico Hülkenberg ended the training in twelfth place.

George Russell set the best time in the 1st training session. The Mercedes pilot drove around the course in 1: 05,542 minutes and was therefore a wafer-thin 0.065 seconds faster than Max Verstappen in the Red Bull. Oscar Piatri took third place with 0.155 seconds. Alex Dunne was convincing. The Formula 2 driver replaced Lando Norris in the opening training and became strong fourth.
