McLaren-Pilot Lando Norris took a break from social media before the Grand Prix of the Emilia-Romagna at the weekend. According to his own statement, he was better able to focus on productive things.

The British racing driver, who has 9.9 million followers on Instagram, said according to a report by ESPN: “I have not been on social media for a few weeks now.”

“It’s just nothing that I enjoy. I don’t need it. It is my life. I can do what I want,” said his explanation for the retreat of Instagram and Co. “I enjoy being on my cell phone as often as before.” Of course, he still uses his cell phone. “I write to my friends and so on.”

But he sees social media as a “waste of time and energy – and I just don’t need that,” the Briton affirmed. That is why he hadn’t posted anything on Instagram since his podium at the Miami Grand Prix on May 9th.

Norris wants to “spend time with my friends”

After his second place in Imola, a new post appeared on Sunday: a photo of Norris, how he claps with his team. It is not known whether he posted the contribution himself or had his management stopped.

In any case, Norris prefers to scroll through contributions or post online, to use his time for more important things in life-for example, for the fight for leadership in the Formula 1 driver classification against his team-mate Oscar Piatri. After Imola, the two only separate 13 points.

“I just have the feeling that I have more time to do the things I really want to do,” says Norris. “I just want to spend time with my friends. I go to play golf, train and do things that are productive.”

He doesn’t have much time for social media in view of the narrow calendar anyway: after Imola there are two more races with Monaco and Barcelona.
