Formula 1 changes timetables: due to the bad weather forecast in Miami the Grand Prix will start three hours earlier than the initial program

After a weekend of heat and sun, bad weather arrived in Florida, disturbing Formula 1’s plans for the big Sunday event: the Miami Grand Prix, initially scheduled for 4pm local time (10pm Italian time). The peak of precipitation, with the risk of lightning storms, is however expected in the American afternoon, at the center of what should be the F.1 race programme. The top series, fresh from the cancellation of two Grands Prix in April due to conflicts in the Middle East which made it impossible to hold the events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, was thus forced to find a safe solution for the correct running of the race, in order not to risk another race cancellation due to bad weather.

it changes now

Throughout the race weekend, the Federation and the FOM carefully monitored the changes in the weather forecast, examining every possibility on the organization’s table and the one deemed best, both for the teams and for all the holders of television rights involved, was to bring forward the race by a few hours, as stated in the official press release which arrived during the Italian night: “Following the discussions between the FIA, the FOM and the promoter of the Miami Grand Prix, the decision was made to bring forward the start of the Grand Prix of Miami on Sunday at 1.00pm (7pm Italian time), in consideration of the weather forecast indicating the arrival of heavy rain in the late afternoon, close to the originally scheduled race start time. This decision was adopted in order to minimize interruptions to the race, to guarantee the widest possible time margin for the completion of the Grand Prix in the best conditions and to give priority to the safety of the drivers, fans, teams and staff.”
