At the media day before the Grand Prix of Spain (Sunday, live at RTL) Formula 1 superstar Lewis Hamilton is presented in Schmallippig and gives answers in the whisper tone. The Ferrari pilot speaks plainly about the reports that he has a bad relationship with his racing engineer Riccardo Adami.
On the media day of Formula 1 in Barcelona, Lewis Hamilton briefly came out to the so-called gate to answer the TV journalists. Instead of the scheduled ten minutes, the Brit was there for a maximum of five minutes.
Hamilton completed his interviews, albeit friendly, the 40 -year -old only reacted to a photographer who took his picture with lightning. The bright light annoyed Sir Lewis.
He actually doesn’t expect anything from the weekend in Catalonia, said Hamilton in the whisper tone, almost incomprehensible before he assured that everything was fine with his voice. The Ferrari man spoke plain text about the reports, with racing engineer Riccardo Adami he got on badly. Nothing there – everything is okay here too.
“There is a lot of speculation, but most of it is bullshit. We have an excellent relationship. It is great to work with him – he is a great type that works extremely hard. And I also,” emphasized Hamilton in Barcelona. “Of course not every weekend is perfect. Are there any disagreements? As in any relationship – but we are working on it.”
Tense radio traffic between Hamilton and Adami
At the Monaco-GP, the sometimes tense radio traffic between Hamilton and Adami once again nourished speculations that it did not fit between the driver and engineer. Hamilton complained about insufficient information about distances on the route.
Also striking was Hamilton’s end: “Is he angry with me?” An answer did not come what F1 observers evaluated as a sign of tensions in the Scuderia.
“Our relationship is great. No difficulties. We are constantly learning from each other,” the record champion weighed: “We adapt to each other, each of us has his own working style. He has already worked with many different drivers. And there are no problems.”
In the relationship between a Formula 1 driver and his engineer, minor disagreements about radio are nothing extraordinary, says Hamilton. Everything else is simply “background noises”.
