The Ferrari pilot spoke at the press conference on the weekend at Spa-FrancoCorchamps, confirming the new suspension in Belgium

“From the team I expected a reaction, and I am happy to be able to finally try the fruit of our work on the track.” Word of Lewis Hamilton, protagonist in the driver conference of the Spa GP, a weekend that could say a lot about the future of the Cavallino season. His Ferrari, after the disappointing GP of Silverstone, took to the track at Mugello to try the highly anticipated rear suspension, a novelty that – in the hopes of Maranello – should allow the pilots to better control the rear axle. But woe to call them tests: “I am not – the Englishman immediately clarifies with a pinch of strategy – we dedicated about ten laps to make some videos, nothing more”.

The new suspension

“The car has not changed – he continues – is the same as the week before and there are no big changes to the simulator”. In short, it would almost be believed that the long wait has already become vain, but Lewis soon corrects the shot: “Tomorrow we will start trying the suspension, there will be work to do and I am sure that it will bring us advantages on the track”. But the real positive aspect is another: “What makes me really proud is how we arrived at this filming day. First Mercedes and Red Bull brought news every weekend and we were still stopped at the bottom of Bahrain. Today, finally, developments continue to arrive. I know that it will take time to see the results, but I am happy to have noticed a reaction from the team”.

“Here to win”

A real change of pace, exactly what English had been aiming for some time. “If you do the same things as always, you get the same results as always,” explains Hamilton. “Think of the names that have been in this team in the last twenty years: Fernando [Alonso ndr.]Kimi [Raikkonen ndr.] and Sebastian [Vettel ndr.]. All fantastic drivers, yet none of them won the title. The same will not happen with me. I am here to win and that’s why I want to change everything. The team listens to me and I know I don’t have much time, so these are decisive moments ”.

The document for 2026

And with a 2025 that seems destined to take the way to Woking, the McLaren house, the focus can only move to Ferrari 2026. “I was in the factory and I participated in several meetings with Vasseur and Elkann. We talked about the car for next year, the engine and my requests”. And speaking of requests: “After the first races I compiled a document – explains Hamilton – and during this break I updated it with a few more page. They are all the areas where we will have to improve for next year, both as a team and in the car. Moreover, it is also for this reason that I chose to come to Ferrari”.
