From the ski slopes to school: This is the route the Swiss Juliana Suter chose. She now works as a teacher.
It’s been a little over a year since Juliana Suter ended her career as a ski racer. And the 26-year-old, who became junior world downhill champion in 2019, has no plans to return to the slopes. The Swiss woman now works as a teacher.
She told “Blick” about her new job: “Because I trained as a teacher parallel to ski racing, I have already taken up my first position as a class teacher.” Suter, who used to travel a lot in the ski circus, explained: “Yes, it’s special to go to the same place every day. I never had that before. I get up at the same time every day and see every day the same kids and people.”
Suter also said that she now has more time for family and friends and enjoys it. Why did she end her career so early? “I really lost my fire for ski racing, with all the adrenaline and the risk of injury. That’s when I decided to end my career,” she continued to “Blick”.
Nevertheless, she continues to pursue her former teammates and competitors. Her sister Jasmina Suter also still drives. However, the 29-year-old is currently injured in her meniscus. Juliana Suter said she was at the World Cup in Sölden and was also there in St. Moritz and St. Anton. “Ski racing is still very close to my heart,” said Suter, who, however, rules out a comeback: “You won’t see me on TV anymore.”
