Former radio and television presenter Jan Lenferink died on Friday at the age of 77, his family reported to the ANP news agency. He was best known for the late-night program RUR.
Lenferink, born in Dalfsen in 1948, was a Dutch teacher, but became a teacher in the 1970s. radio host for VARA and VPRO, among others. Soon he also wrote media pieces for the back page of NRC Handelsblad and he got a TV column in the The Hague Post.
Together with Gert-Jan Dröge he devised the talk show RUR, which was broadcast by Veronica from the Amsterdam discotheque Richter from 1983. Later the program moved to other locations and other channels.
Striped shirt
Lenferink received countless artists, politicians and international guests at RUR, as well as unknown Dutch people. With his cheeky way of presenting himself, the classic striped shirt he always wore and the characteristic glass of milk, he was, according to Sound & Vision the personification of the ‘yuppie era’ of the 80s.
With later attempts to revive RUR and other TV programs, Lenferink never became as successful as in the early years of his talk show.
Lenferink’s farewell will take place privately, according to his family.
