Katja Grossmann once raced down the slopes of Europe on skis. However, she was repeatedly stopped by injuries. She is now doing something completely different professionally.

Katja Grossmann has had an eventful winter sports career. In 2017 she became runner-up at the Junior World Championships. Experts compared the Swiss woman to world champion and Olympic champion Beat Feuz because of her talent. But serious injuries prevented the hoped-for development. She broke her tibia and fibula for the first time in 2019, then again in 2022. There were also a few other injuries that stood in the way of a great career in the World Cup.

Grossmann therefore decided a few years ago to begin an apprenticeship as a nursing specialist. She told “Blick” two years ago: “My goal is to continue to race and win at some point. At the same time, I noticed that I also need another task. Something that fulfills me, but also distracts me. I found that here.”

A year later she announced the end of her winter sports career. “My journey over the last few years has not always been easy, as has this decision, because skiing is an important part of my life,” she explained in December 2024. “But over the years I have had to go through seven serious injuries and more than 20 operations, which means that I no longer want to take this risk.”

Grossmann stuck to her second mainstay – with success. Yesterday, Monday, she proudly announced on Instagram that she had successfully completed her five-year apprenticeship: from now on she is a qualified nursing specialist in Switzerland. “There is always a way if you are willing to find it,” she wrote.
