Former national coach takes over Corinthians

Former Brazilian national coach Mano Menezes is taking over Corinthians from Sao Paulo for the third time.

The 61-year-old succeeds Vanderlei Luxemburgo at the seven-time champions, who was fired the day after the semi-final first leg of the Copa Sudamericana against Fortaleza EC (1-1). Luxemburgo was also once a Selecao coach.

Menezes has signed a contract until the end of 2025. According to media reports, the club actually wanted to bring in Corinthians idol Tite, Brazil’s national coach at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. However, he is said to be about to get involved with Flamengo Rio de Janeiro.

Menezes was previously coach of Corinthians Sao Paulo from 2008 to 2010 and in 2014, who have been waiting for their eighth championship title since 2017.
