Things have been quiet around Lucien Favre for almost three years. Now the former BVB coach reveals why.

Former Bundesliga coach Lucien Favre has officially ended his career on the sidelines. The ex-professional explained in an interview with the Swiss “Blick”: “It’s good for me the way it is. I decided a long time ago because I felt: everything has been done, it’s enough.”

Most recently he was with OGC Nice in Ligue 1. Leaving the French first division club in January 2023 meant the end of his career as head coach. After his time in France, there were inquiries: “From Europe, from Saudi Arabia,” explained Favre. But: “I politely declined because it’s definitely finished. Most people understood my message. You can always ask questions, but the answer remains clear: it’s over.”

The Swiss is now 68 years old and is convinced that if he continues, he will still be “on the pitch at 70”. “I’ve done enough, it’s enough,” emphasized Favre, who can’t imagine any other role in the football industry.
