Brussels (dpa-AfX)- The Foreign and Defense Minister of the EU countries will meet this Tuesday in Brussels. Defense Minister talks in the morning (from 9.30 a.m.) should be particularly concerned with equipment plans and the further military support of Ukraine. The foreign ministers then want to decide on new Russia sanctions in the afternoon (2 p.m.) and talk about the situation in the Gaza Strip and in Syria.
The now 17th EU package with Russia sanctions provides for further tightening of the procedure against the so-called Russian shadow fleet for the transport of oil and oil products. It is also planned to target dozens of other companies that are involved in the bypass of existing sanctions or the Russian Armaments support.
Political agreement on the new punitive measures was already in the past week. Russia could probably only prevent the decision for the entry into force if it would previously agree with an unconditional ceasefire with Ukraine.
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) and Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul are expected for the meetings in Brussels for Germany. The CDU politician WadePhul takes part in a formal council for foreign matters for the first time as Foreign Minister
