From the intersection with the Van Stolberglaan to the Van Leeuwenhoeklaan, something strange is going on with the road. This piece of road was always called the Boerhaavelaan. But recently there is a street sign with a new name: Driewegenlaan. What about that?

Virge Pico from Zoetermeer bumped into the new street sign and sent this question to the editors of Indebuurt Zoetermeer. For questions about Zoetermeerse streets, we must be at the street names committee within the municipality.

In half minced meat

De Boerhaavelaan is a long road between the Van Leeuwenhoeklaan and the Bredewater. It takes you to Zoetermeer train station, and the Driemanspolder and Meerzicht neighborhoods. From one day to the next, the Boerhaavelaan is chopped in half and the road is suddenly a lot shorter. According to the municipality, this has to do with the new residential area Entree.

New residential area

The new neighborhood has not yet been given an official new name, but the municipality uses the project name Entree for the time being. Thousands of new homes will be built in this new neighborhood. The first residential project is Terra Nova. You know it: the big skeleton along the Boerhaavelaan. It used to be an office building and now it is being transformed into an apartment complex.

First new street name

The apartment building was always in the Driemanspolder district, but that is now the Entree district. With this new neighborhood, new street names and zip codes are also needed. The first street is now known: the Driewegenlaan. The new residents of the apartment building will soon live in this street.

Named after

The Drillewegenlaan is named after an old farm that stood there, according to a spokesperson for the municipality. A logical name in itself because the street is also at a point where three roads come together, namely the Van Leeuwenhoeklaan, Irelandlaan and … Driewegenlaan.
