For sale at the Wesley free market: ‘Just emptied urn for reuse’

Bargain hunters scour the free market during King’s Day, looking for that one gem among all the dilapidated trade. But who will give a penny for the urn whose ashes have just been scattered? Really, for sale in Zevenbergen.

It’s always fun to browse the free market during King’s Day. Curiosity about what is for sale usually wins out. Usually, because, let’s face it, a rare gem for a mere penny won’t let you just walk away. And there is plenty of unique merchandise in Zevenbergen. Such as the ‘beautiful antiques from the 1970s’ by street vendor Wesley. Dressed in an orange number 14 football shirt, he slaloms through his gear like an accomplished Johan Cruijff to quickly recommend something.

“We just scattered the previous occupant.”

What do we see in between? “An urn for reuse. We just scattered the previous occupant. For three euros you can take it with you. We only scattered the ashes a week ago, it is for reuse,” Wesley laughs.
