The top consultation between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday evening did not produce any concrete results. For example, there is no insight into a ceasefire, Russia made no commitment whatsoever and nothing was announced about sanctions.
This happened so far in the hours after the top in Alaska:
- Trump spoke with Putin after “a very good meeting” and said that the chance of an agreement “fifty-fifty“Without explaining what exactly he is referring to. Putin has not publicly said anything about the meeting with Trump.
- On the plane, Trump then called the Ukrainian President Volodyymyr Zensky for an hour and a half. In that conversation, Zensky discussed the invitation to travel to Washington DC on Monday for a meeting with Trump.
- Zensky called the conversation with Trump “long and content.” He emphasized the importance of involvement of European countries “in every phase, to bring about security guarantees together with America.”
- Trump has also expressed hope for a meeting between himself, Putin and Zensky. The Kremlin announced after the top that it did not pass during the conversations between Trump and Putin.
- In addition to Zensky, Trump also made a telephone conversation with eight European leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
