Aline Smits makes designs for hobby magazines, among other things. This comes from complicated maps that are made with punches, folds and slices, to simple cards that come about with the creative placement of stickers.
Home -made map deserves more appreciation
“I think people can have a little more appreciation for the home -made cards. If one falls into your mailbox, you have to realize that the maker has had to do a lot for it. There is time and love in it,” she says.
For the uncrowned craft queen Van Den Helder, the work never actually stops. “As far as Christmas is concerned, the work begins in April. In June the first Christmas cards will be in the magazines so then everything must be ready. Eight months later, that work will stop for a while and then we are already in the winter cards again.”
