Football Premier League: Man City v Brighton – Live Scores – Matchday 13 – 2022/2023

32

16:34

There’s an alarm at the guest gate! The ball is shifted from the right to the left via Kevin De Bruyne. Jack Grealish plays back to the Belgian playmaker, who shoots from 20 yards and forces Robert Sánchez to make a great save.

30

16:33

After a combination between Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish, the Englishman goes down against Joël Veltman in the penalty area and demands a penalty. Referee Craig Pawson was in good form, however, and is certain that the action didn’t deserve a penalty.

29

16:31

After a good half hour, the hosts relax and let the guests come. Roberto De Zerbi’s team can’t get through against a well-stacked city defense.

26

16:28

Moises Caicedo

Moisés Caicedo (Brighton & Hove Albion) is shown a yellow card.

The Brighton midfielder brings down Erling Haaland in his own half. The attack was only aimed at the opponent and not the ball, so he fully deserved the warning.

25

16:28

Brighton also run high from behind, ensuring that Ederson has to direct the Citizens’ game from his own penalty area. But if the Brazilian continues to solve it like a few minutes ago, the Sky Blues shouldn’t have a problem with it.

22

16:23

Erling Haaland

Tooor for Manchester City, 1-0 through Erling Haaland

Ederson tees off all over the field and perfectly hits the run of Erling Haaland, who goes past Robert Sánchez and uses his power against Adam Webster. Then the Norwegian only has the empty goal in front of him and pushes in with his weak right foot. The goal largely belongs to the Citizens goalkeeper, but Erling Haaland is also outstanding in the situation.

19

16:22

João Cancelo plays a dream pass to Kevin De Bruyne, who starts on the left and immediately plays in the middle. There Erling Haaland lurks in the goal area and is brought down by Robert Sánchez. Despite the contact, the referee does not point to the point and the VAR does not intervene either. Lucky for the Seagulls.

17

16:19

In his own half, Ederson now has the leather on his foot for a long time because he simply cannot find a passing station. Roberto De Zerbi’s team covers all options until Ederson then looks for the long pass into midfield.

16

16:18

After a good 15 minutes, the Citizens have significantly more possession of the ball. The Sky Blues are still without a degree. The match plan of the guests seems to be working so far.

13.

16:14

Grealish and Bernardo Silva play a fine one-two on the left and the Portuguese takes the first corner of the game. Rúben Dias, Laporte and Rodri stand by but Brighton head the ball clear in the form of Veltman.

11.

16:12

Oops, that can go wrong too! Ederson is actually one of the better footballers among goalkeepers, but now he plays a risky low pass right into Welbeck’s feet outside the penalty area. He immediately pulls from a half-right position from more than 50 meters, but slips and makes the attempt clearly to the right. Lucky for City!

9.

16:10

Welbeck can continue to play for the time being. The ball runs in the ranks of Manchester City. Haaland moves to the right wing and takes João Cancelo with him, who then commits an offensive foul.

7.

16:08

Danny Welbeck kneels in the opposing penalty area and holds his left eye. The supervisors rush to the field to tend to him. This was preceded by an unfortunate collision with Rúben Dias, whose arm was slightly outstretched. Not a foul but a painful move for Brighton’s striker.

5.

16:05

While the guests lurk in the middle of the opposing half when City has the ball, the Skyblues go for it in the penalty area and thus force ball losses early. No chances have arisen yet.

3.

16:02

City’s coach makes three changes compared to the Liverpool game: In defence, Aymeric Laporte is making his starting XI debut this season after recovering from a knee injury. Also new on offense are Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez. Nathan Aké, Phil Foden and İlkay Gündoğan take a seat on the bench instead. Brighton play with the same starting formation as against Nottingham.

1.

16:00

The guests from Brighton have toasted. They line up in bright red jerseys, while City plays classic in light blue and white.

15:51

Pep Guardiola is without injured Kyle Walker (groin) and Kalvin Phillips (shoulder) today. John Stones (hamstring) is back in team training but may not be an option for the starting XI just yet. Only midfielder Jakub Moder is missing from the visitors from Brighton due to a cruciate ligament rupture. Kaoru Mitoma (ankle injury) is also out.

15:45

Last season, Manchester City was clearly ahead in a direct duel between the two teams. In the first leg, the two teams drew 4-1 at Falmer Stadium. The Citizens also won the second leg 3-0 on matchday 30. The scorers back then were Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva. At the end of the season, City finished champions just ahead of Liverpool with 93 points. Brighton & Hove finished ninth with 51 points. Overall, the two teams have already met 28 times in all competitions. The Citizens won 18 games, the Seagulls five and another five games ended in a draw.

15:30

The guests from Albion are currently in eighth place with 15 points. Although Roberto de Zerbi’s team picked up ten out of a possible twelve points at the start of the season, the Seagulls haven’t won any of their last four league games and have slipped down the table accordingly. Today, however, the southern English want to annoy one of the big clubs again and, as they did against Manchester United (2-1 on Matchday 1) and Liverpool (3-3 on Matchday 9), get important points to Albion. The Seagulls’ key player this season is Belgian Leandro Trossard, who has recorded five goals and two assists from the left wing. Central midfielders Alexis Max Allister (4 goals) and Pascal Groß (3 goals) also regularly pose a goal threat.

15:20

During the week, the Sky Blues would have had a direct duel with leaders Arsenal. However, the Gunners had to pull out of the Europa League game against PSV Eindhoven last month after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. In order to be able to make up for this encounter before the end of the group phase and not risk a point deduction, the game was rescheduled last Thursday. For the Citizens, this decision meant a game-free week. When the top game can be made up for is still unclear due to the upcoming World Cup.

15:14

Last week showed that the Guardiola team is beatable this season. The Citizens lost 1-0 to Jürgen Klopp’s FC Liverpool because Mohammed Salah was able to overcome Ederson in the 76th minute and the otherwise strong offensive of the Sky Blues remained without a goal. In the Premier League, City remain second to Arsenal with 23 points. City, who were named Club of the Year at the Ballon d’Or ceremony earlier this week, are the league’s top attackers with 33 goals of their own. Almost half of the goals are attributed to center forward Erling Haaland, who has already scored 15 goals in ten league games. The fact that little is going well without the Norwegian was recently shown in the Champions League, where Pep Guardiola rested the 22-year-old and instead relied on Argentinian Julián Álvarez in the center of the attack. The Citizens team could not get past a 0-0 draw against FC Copenhagen without their top scorer, but they still lead Group G comfortably.
