Jerome Boateng announced the end of his career as a professional footballer. His greatest success was the 2014 World Cup title, most recently he made headlines with a process of domestic violence.

The 37-year-old announced the end of his career with a contribution to Instagram and the words “It’s Time” (“It is time”). In August he had terminated his contract with the Linz ASK. “I played for a long time, for big clubs, for my country. I learned, lost, lost and grew on everything. Football gave me a lot. Now it is time to go on. Not because I have to, but because I am ready for it.”

Boateng was born in Berlin, his path led by Tennis Borussia Berlin and Herthe BSC via Hamburger SV and Manchester City 2011 to Bayern Munich. There and in the German national team he was head of defense for years. Since 2021 he has been playing for Olympique LyonUS Salernitana and Linz. His greatest successes were the winning of the Champions League 2013 and 2020 with Bayern and the 2014 World Cup title with the German team. Boateng also won nine German championship titles with the Munichers.

Warned due to domestic violence

Against Boateng there was a procedure for domestic violence. At the end of 2024 he was warned by the Munich I District Court for assault. The chamber had imposed a fine with reservation of 200,000 euros. This is like a fine on probation, only in the event of a new offense Boateng would have to pay.
